Guide

Autism and co-occurring mental health needs

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability that can affect social communication and behavior. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that autism is often accompanied by other conditions and that supports should be individualized (CDC, Autism Spectrum Disorder). Many families also seek help for anxiety, mood, trauma, ADHD, or challenging behavior alongside autism. Crimson Heights offers ABA, outpatient therapy, family therapy, occupational therapy, in-home ABA, and psychological testing—including autism testing—at all eight clinics.

Overview

ABA and therapy together

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) supports communication, adaptive skills, independence, and reduction of harmful behaviors. Outpatient therapy may also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills when co-occurring mental health needs are present. Care plans stay individualized.

Overview

Testing and levels of care

Psychological testing includes autism testing and mental health evaluations at every clinic, plus evaluations for adult residential support when a level-of-care placement requires one. Youth day treatment and PHP are available at every Utah clinic. Adult residential support is Utah only. Programs run Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM (Henderson from 9 AM to 6 PM), with Saturday appointments available.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you provide autism testing?

Yes. Psychological testing at every clinic includes autism testing, along with mental health evaluations and evaluations for adult residential support when required for level-of-care placement.

Is in-home ABA available?

Yes. In-home ABA is available through all eight clinics. Eligibility, authorization, and staffing are confirmed during intake.

Can you help with anxiety or behavior that comes with autism?

Yes. Many families seek support for co-occurring anxiety, mood, trauma, ADHD, or challenging behavior. A clinician helps decide whether ABA, mental health therapy, or both fit.

Is adult residential support available?

Adult residential support is offered through Utah locations only. DSPD Certified Residential Support is a Utah pathway. Nevada families explore ADSD pathways such as SLA and ATAP separately.

Where can I read a public overview of autism?

The CDC maintains Autism Spectrum Disorder pages covering signs, screening, and treatment categories at cdc.gov/autism.
