PHP, day treatment, and IOP—what’s the difference?

Families hear many acronyms when a young person needs more than weekly therapy. This article explains partial hospitalization (PHP), day treatment, and intensive outpatient (IOP) in everyday language, then maps what Crimson Heights offers.

Overview

Intensity in plain terms

Outpatient therapy is usually periodic appointments. IOP adds more clinical hours each week while the person still lives at home. Day treatment and PHP provide structured daytime programming with a higher level of support than IOP, still without overnight residential stay. Exact schedules are set during intake.

Overview

What Crimson Heights offers

Youth day treatment and PHP are offered at every Utah clinic. IOP is offered at every Utah and Nevada clinic. Adult residential support is a separate Utah overnight pathway. Programs run Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM (Henderson from 9 AM to 6 PM), with Saturday appointments available. CARF lists Day Treatment (BH), Intensive Outpatient Treatment (BH), Outpatient Treatment (BH), and Partial Hospitalization among accredited programs.
