Guide

Depression support for youth and adults

Depression can look like lasting sadness, irritability, loss of interest, low energy, or withdrawal from people and activities. The National Institute of Mental Health describes depression as a common but serious mood disorder that can affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities (NIMH, Depression). Crimson Heights provides outpatient therapy and stepped levels of care across eight Utah and Nevada clinics.

Overview

Therapy approaches

Care for depression may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioral Activation (Behavioral Activation), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills when emotion regulation or safety concerns are part of treatment. Family therapy can help when the household is part of the recovery plan.

Overview

Levels of care

Depending on need, care may include outpatient mental health therapy, intensive outpatient (IOP), and youth day treatment and PHP at every Utah clinic. Programs run Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM (Henderson from 9 AM to 6 PM), with Saturday appointments available. Psychological testing can include mental health evaluations when needed to clarify next steps.

FAQ

Common questions

Can teens receive depression support?

Yes. Child and teen therapy and outpatient mental health services are available at every clinic. Youth day treatment and PHP are available at every Utah clinic when a higher daytime structure is appropriate.

What is Behavioral Activation?

Behavioral Activation (BA) helps people rebuild meaningful activities and routines when depression has led to withdrawal or avoidance. A clinician decides whether BA fits.

Do you offer psychological testing for mood concerns?

Psychological testing at every clinic can include Mental health evaluations, autism testing, and evaluations for adult residential support when a level-of-care placement requires one. Evaluator assignment and timing are confirmed during intake.

What if someone has thoughts of self-harm?

If there is immediate danger, call 911 or 988. Tell intake about safety concerns so the team can discuss the right level of care. Crimson Heights is not an emergency department.

Where can I read a trusted overview of depression?

NIMH publishes an overview of depression symptoms and treatment topics at nimh.nih.gov under Health Topics.
