Job Title: Youth Support Mentor

Compensation: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour

Position Overview
At Crimson Heights, our mission is to help teens and young adults with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges move toward greater independence. As a Youth Support Mentor, you will play a vital role in fostering safety, stability, and growth in a residential behavioral health setting. This role requires compassion, consistency, and a strong commitment to client-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Resident Support & Mentorship
- Build positive rapport with residents while promoting a safe, structured environment.
- Mentor and support residents in achieving individualized treatment goals.
- Assist residents in daily routines including personal care, hygiene, and life skills development.
- Conduct and participate in skill-building groups and structured recreational activities.
- Serve as a positive role model by maintaining professional boundaries and encouraging appropriate behavior.
Daily Operations
- Ensure awareness of resident location and activity at all times; maintain line-of-sight supervision during assigned one-on-one periods.
- Respond to crisis situations (e.g., aggression, elopement, suicidal ideation) with appropriate de-escalation techniques and safety precautions.
- Follow and enforce house rules and policy expectations.
- Complete assigned daily duties such as cleaning, laundry, meal prep, deep cleans, and home maintenance tasks.
- Provide safe and legal transportation to residents using company vehicles for off-site activities, appointments, or community outings.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident progress, services provided, and behavioral observations.
- Complete assessments of functional living skills as needed and help develop personalized goals.
- Communicate relevant information to internal team members and, where appropriate, external providers.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and service planning sessions.
Independent Living Skill Areas
- Social Skills: Body language, eye contact, empathy, conversational skills, community engagement.
- Executive Functioning: Goal-setting, money management, time management, hygiene, safety awareness.
- Communication Skills: Assertiveness, conflict resolution, receptive/expressive language, asking for help appropriately.
- Community Access: Public transportation, job placement, school attendance, and appointment-setting.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent, and 6–12 months of experience working with individuals diagnosed with autism, oppositional defiance disorder (ODD), or conduct disorder.
- Preferred: Associate degree or higher in psychology, sociology, social work, human services, or a related behavioral/mental health field. Training in behavior analysis is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with clients requiring higher-level care, including personal hygiene support (e.g., diaper changes, shower assistance).
- Willingness to work flexible shifts including days, evenings, and overnights.
- Ability to follow clinical and behavioral support plans.
- Capable of handling crises with professionalism and calm demeanor.
Certifications & Licenses
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (Required).
- CPR/First Aid certification (Preferred or willingness to obtain).
- Background check and urine drug screen clearance (Required).
